The OOCL Felixstowe, the China-made ultra-large container ship in the world, made its maiden voyage and exited border from Nansha Port in south Guangdong Province on Friday.
The mega vessel was developed and built by the Dalian COSCO KHI Ship Engineering Company for the Orient Overseas Container Line Ltd. (OOCL), and was delivered earlier this month.
With a total length of 399.99 meters, a width of 61.3 meters, and a height of 81.8 meters, the ship possesses a capacity to accommodate 24,188 TEUs.
"The deck area is equivalent to 3.5 standard football fields, and when fully loaded, it can reach the height of a 22-story residential building. It is one of the largest vessels in the world and can be called a floating castle," said Li Xiangbiao, deputy manager of foreign trade ship agency department at COSCO Shipping Lines South-China Co., Ltd..
The OOCL Felixstowe docked on early Friday. To ensure a successful maiden voyage, border inspection officers at the Nansha Port swiftly completed the departure procedures.
"According to its characteristics of docking in early morning and having a massive size, we reacted round the clock, communicating in advance with the ship's crew and shipping agency, and efficiently completed the departure inspection procedures," said Chen He, staff member at the Nansha border inspection station.
The maiden voyage of the OOCL Felixstowe indicates the further optimization of the Belt and Road shipping network at the Guangzhou Nansha Port.
