The Qingdao Qianwan Container Terminal (QQCT) of Qingdao Port, Shandong, received the Green Port Award System (GPAS) award during the Forum on Innovative Ports for a Low-Carbon and Digital Future held by APEC Port Services Network (APSN) on Oct 24 in Bangkok, Thailand.

QQCT is the first port on Chinese mainland to apply photovoltaic systems to bridge cranes, having installed 2,800 square meters of distributed photovoltaic systems that can generate 500,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity annually.
QQCT has also been using hydrogen-powered heavy-duty trucks for its operations. The port is currently using 20 such trucks which have resulted in annual fuel savings of over 400,000 liters. These trucks have also reduced carbon dioxide emissions by more than 1,200 metric tons annually.
Meanwhile, three state-of-the-art shore power facilities help lower fuel consumption, emissions and noise when ships are docking at the port. QQCT has completed 47 cases of shore power connection this year, and the shore power output has reached 178,000 kWh, rising 42.4 percent and 84.5 percent year-on-year respectively.
QQCT has also completed battery modifications for 61 rubber-tired gantry cranes that have resulted in an annual reduction of 170,000 liters of fuel and over 450 tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
QQCT will continue integrating more green technologies, such as wind power, into the port services in the future.
